With an objective of imparting skill sets and help disabled persons in getting placement in private sector, the Dept. has started a scheme called "Training and Employment to disabled Persons". The scheme started in the year 2006-07 in 20 districts on pilot basis. The scheme would be extended to the remaining 7 districts during 2007-08.
The scheme envisages providing the following computer based training to the selected disabled persons at Dist. level, who have educational qualification of PUC and above.

The non matriculates are given 3 months training in vocational courses. Free hostel facility will be provided to the trainees during training period.
Lack of technical skill block the entry of disabled persons into private sector. There is demand for skilled workers in BPOs / Call Centres / Garment industries, auxiliary units and construction industry. |

The employment and training programme is focused on the Literate and technically qualified disabled persons thus leaving a major chunk of illiterate poorest sections of the disabled population in rural areas. The SHG concept is evolved to provide employment to persons with disabilities who lives in villages and have no activity to pursue Govt. have sanctioned new scheme called 'Spoorthy' wherein it is targeted to form 270 SHGs in selected 27 taluks in each dist. on pilot basis.
Main Objectives

Reservations in Government Jobs:
The Government of Karnataka has reserved 5% of posts to the persons with disabilities in C & D groups from 1995, vide govt. order No. DPAR/8/RES/95 Dated. 20/6/1995.
Vocational Training Centre:
The Government of India has setup a vocational rehabilitation centre for various types of disabled persons in bangalore. This centre provides skill development trainings in different categories.
Teacher Training Centres :
TTCVH:
Dept. of welfare of Disabled is running training centre for the teachers of visually impaired children at Mysore from the past 3 years. This institution given training to 25 eligible candidates every year.
TTCHH:
The dept is also running training for the teachers of hearing impaired children from the past two years. This institution given training to 20 eligible candidates every year at
Mysore.
Hostel for Disabled employees and Trainees:
The dept of welfare of disabled is running hostels for disabled employees / trainees for men and women separately in Bangalore. The disabled trainees / employees are given admission, whose income is less than Rs. 18,000/- per annum. The capacity of each institution is 100/-.

Adhara
Eligibility
- Should have disability of 60% and above.
- Family Annual Income Rs.11,500/- per annuam in case of rural candidates and Rs.24,000/- per annuam in case of urban candidates (Income certificate should be enclosed)
- The beneficiary should be literate.
- The beneficiary should be living in Karnataka for the past 10 years.
- The beneficiary should be above 16 years of age.
- The beneficiary should not be a defaulter to Govt. under any scheme.
- Should not be a beneficiary under Adhara, NHFDC schemes earlier.

The Dist. Disabled Welfare Officer will take necessary action to allot telephone booths to the most needy disabled persons.
