CM's Padayathra Information
| Padayathras are not new to Yeddyurappa who had undertaken once in the early days in 1981 to highlight the problems faced by bonded labourers and farmers without their own lands in his home district Shimoga. "This is not the time to rest," says the busy chief minister, knocking on several doors, including meeting Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi when she was in Bellary earlier this week for an aerial survey, for help and timely assistance. | ||||||||||||
The general public, state and central government undertakings have pledged help. On Wednesday, Bangalore-headquartered defence public sector undertaking BEML Ltd chairman V.RS. Natarajan presented a Rs 2 crore cheque to the chief minister's relief fund, while Syndicate Bank donated a Rs 3 crore cheque. State Government Transport Department secretary and senior IAS officer M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda told India Today that the state transport undertakings together will mobilise Rs 5 crore to the CM's relief fund. India's silicon valley Bangalore, home to multi-billion dollar software behemoths, is eagerly looking forward to liberal donations to the CM's relief fund although for the time being it is the non-IT sector that has stolen a march in rushing with financial help to the calamity relief fund. |

| Yeddyurappa has sought nearly Rs 10,000 crore financial assitance from the Prime Minister who is scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of the affected districts in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh on October 9. State Congress leaders and union ministers from Karnataka like SM Krishna and Veerappa Moily are also working their channels with the PM to seek immediate relief and assistance to the state that witnessed its worst ever calamity which some experts fear was partially man-made. | ||||||||||||
