Drugs Control Department in Karnataka is the premier law enforcement agency implementing the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules 1945 and other drugs related laws. Drugs Control Department in Karnataka is functioning as an independent department since 1962 under the Health and Family Welfare department, Government Of Karnataka with the Drugs Controller as Head of the Department. It’s head office is located at Palace Road, Bangalore-560001.There are 3 different wings of the department

 

Drugs Control Department has three wings –

   

1)Enforcement Wing

2) Drugs Testing Laboratory

3)Government College of Pharmacy & Board of Examining Authority.

 

Enforcement wing deals with licensing of sales establishments manufacturing establishments, inspections of sales and manufacturing establishments, drawl of samples for test and analysis, investigation of complaints, launching of prosecution against the defaulters etc.

 

 Drugs Testing Laboratory is a statutory Laboratory that carries out testing and analysis of samples of Drugs & Cosmetics drawn by

enforcement officers and samples sent by a purchaser.

 

ENFORCEMENT /ADMINISTRATION

The department discharges the statutory functions involved in the enforcement of the following enactments-

• Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940 and Rules therunder

• Drugs (Prices Control ) Order 1995

• Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act,1954 and rules thereunder

• Pharmacy Act, 1948 and Education Regulation thereunder

• Poisons Act, 1919 and Karnataka Poisons Rules,1966

• Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985 in relation to illicit use of Psychotropic substances.
