NCC AT A GLANCE

Motto: The Motto of NCC is “Unity and Discipline”

The National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into discipline and patriotic citizens, which was created under the Indian Defence Act, 1917 with the Aim to make up the shortage of the Army.  In 1920 when the Indian Territorial Act was passed, the University Corps was replaced by University Training Corps (UTC).  In 1942, the University Training Corps was renamed as the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC).  In order to create a youth organization at the national level, a committee under Pandit HN Kunzru was setup in 1946.  Recommendations of this Committee paved the way for formation of NCC.  Thus, the National Cadet Corps came into existence under the National Cadet Corps  Act XXXI of 1948 under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
