1. Fish seed production, rearing and distribution

Under this scheme, allocation has been provided for the production of fish seed in fish seed production farms, rearing fish seed in farms and taluk level nurseries, cages and pens, procurement and transportation of fish seed, maintenance of vehicles and purchase of farm equipments etc.

2. Fish Farmers Development Agencies

13 Fish Farmers Development Agencies have been established to develop small tanks and ponds (W.S.A of less than 10 ha). The main objective of these agencies is to impart training to the youth in fisheries activities. Apart from this, assistance is also provided for construction of ponds (20% subsidy subjected to a maximum of Rs.40, 000/- per hectare), cost of inputs (20% subsidy subjected to a maximum of Rs.6, 000/- per hectare), renovation of existing ponds (20% subsidy subjected to a maximum of Rs.12, 000/- per hectare), etc.

3. National Co-operative Development Corporation Aided Integrated Inland Fisheries Development Project:

Integrated Inland Fisheries Development Project aided by National Co-operative Development Corporation is being implemented from 2002-03 to increase inland fish production, at a cost of 13.40 crore in 6 districts viz Shimoga, Raichur, Dharwad, Davangere, Haveri and Bellary. The project comprises units like basic infrastructure development, providing fisheries requisites, training and extension services, market promotion. Under this project 308 tanks and reservoirs with water spread area at 14.880 ha. are being developed through primary fisheries cooperative societies with a target to produces 9,129 tonnes of inland fish worth 22.82 crore. Around 3000 fishermen and their families are benefitting from the scheme.

A sum of Rs.202.30 lakh (including district sector) has been released to the Karnataka Co-operative Fisheries Federation, Mysore for implementation of scheme. In anticipation of release of funds from the State Govt. the Federation has made an expenditure of Rs.226.996 lakhs.

4. Managerial Subsidy to Fisheries Co-operative Societies -

Under this scheme, assistance is extended in the form of honorarium to the Secretaries of the newly formed societies on a sliding scale for three years at the rate of Rs.2500/-, Rs. 1500/- and Rs.1000/- for first ,second and third year respectively.

5. Subsidy for construction of fish culture tanks in water-logged areas

This scheme is implemented for development of waterlogged saline and alkaline soils in the command areas of irrigation projects to take up fish culture. The unit cost for construction of one-acre fish pond is Rs.1.25 lakh, including Rs.1.00 lakh for construction of pond and Rs.0.25 lakh for inputs. To encourage entrepreneurs, an amount of Rs.30, 000/- is provided as subsidy.

6. Assistance for construction of fish culture tanks in private sector

Under the scheme, a subsidy of Rs.10, 000/- is provided to entrepreneurs who construct one-acre fish culture pond in their own land.

7. Assistance for supply of grass carp seed

Under this scheme, farmers are encouraged to stock grass carp seed in tanks/ponds by providing subsidy at the rate 50% of the cost of seeds not exceeding Rs. 5000 each.

8. Assistance for development of fisheries in wells and ponds

Under the scheme, farmers and public at large are given 250 common carp fish seed free of cost to stock in wells and ponds owned by them.

9. Assistance for fresh water prawn culture

Under the scheme, 50% subsidy subject to maximum of Rs.20000 is provided for the purchase of freshwater prawn seed and feed to take up fresh water prawn culture in 1-acre pond.
